      What is pain management?

Pain management is a branch of medicine dedicated to relieving pain and improving the quality of life for those who suffer from chronic pain. Pain has many different causes — from arthritis to fibromyalgia, to sports or work injuries — that it’s important to understand the whole picture and to uncover all of the factors that could be causing the pain.

Drs. Cooper will diagnose the source of your pain so that you can then move forward with a customized treatment plan. You’ll have frequent follow-up sessions and reevaluations to make sure that you’re on track to pain alleviation and an improved quality of life.

Sometimes we forget that in addition to a physical experience, pain is also an emotional experience. This means that your pain management treatment might include options like counseling, meditation, or relaxation techniques.

What types of pain are commonly treated with pain management plans?

Any type of pain can be addressed at Synergy Medical LLC, but here are a few types of pain that are commonly treated with a pain management plan and chiropractic care:

      • Back pain
      • Neck pain
      • Shoulder pain
      • Extremity pain - Wrists, elbows, ankles, feet
      • Headaches

For all types of pain, it’s important to communicate to your doctor where the pain is coming from and what it feels like. Open, clear communication is encouraged at Synergy Medical. Drs. Cooper will spend a lot of quality time working with you to understand your pain.

What are some pain management treatment options?

Depending on the source of pain, your pain management plan may include one or more of the following:

      • Spinal manipulation
      • Corrective exercises and education
      • Nutritional counseling
      • Massage therapy
      • Meditation and relaxation techniques

At Synergy Medical, the doctors and therapists use a team approach, meaning that several practitioners will work together using a variety of strategies to help you manage your pain. Furthermore, if Drs. Cooper can’t offer the particular treatment you need, they’ll refer you to someone who can. Book a consultation today to see if your pain can be treated at Synergy Medical.

      Do you treat Fibromyalgia?

We consider ourselves experts in helping people with fibromyalgia achieve significant relief, while others enjoy a full recovery. This condition simply means that your muscles and fascia (connective tissue sheath beneath the skin) are tight and inflamed. We specialize in detecting and correcting the cause of your pain whether it be postural based, mechanical or chemical in nature (poor diet can create increased blood sugar and thus inflammation throughout the body). You see, people aren’t born with fibromyalgia. It’s a developmental disease and resultant from the “environment” in which you live. We may need to do a blood draw to check certain biomarkers and rule out nutritional deficiencies, but rest assured, we will get you on the road to recovery once we determine the underlying cause of your symptoms.

Many fibromyalgia symptoms overlap and are concurrent with other conditions, and we find fibromyalgia is often misdiagnosed. Spinal/skeletal misalignments creates abnormal weight bearing and improper posture, which means our body is “off” of its center of gravity. Subconsciously, our brains detect this misalignment and cause your muscles to fire to pull your body back over its center of gravity. As a result, these postural muscles are constantly firing to correct the imbalance (referred to as the righting reflex) and they get extremely tight and inflamed. One practitioner may say that the muscles are the problem and we need to massage them. Another may say we need to correct the misalignments so that the muscles don’t have to work overtime. A third practitioner may say we need to perform trigger point injections on those muscles to get them to relax and reduce the adhesions and inflammation that form from being hypertonic for so long. Then they would benefit from passive and active stretching.

This is collaborative approach is what occurs during our daily team meetings as your Synergy Medical Team providers formulate every new patient’s treatment plan. This is the Integrative approach.
